disc problems

What Is a Spinal Disc?
An intervertebral disc is a flexible piece of cartilage composed of a soft inner core (nucleus pulposus) surrounded by a tough outer ring (annulus fibrosus).

Herniated and Bulging Discs

In the case of a herniation (prolapse) or disc bulge (protrusion), the normally fixed disc can shift—often triggered by lifting and twisting motions. The disc or its soft inner core may push through a weakened or torn outer ring. Warning signs of a herniated disc include muscle paralysis in the affected area and loss of bowel or bladder control. These symptoms require immediate decompression and urgent medical attention.

Pain as the Main Symptom – Non-Surgical Options Available In most cases, pain is the primary symptom. Fortunately, there are many effective treatment options that do not require surgery.
In addition to medication, targeted injections to relieve pressure on the affected nerve root are often helpful. This procedure is known as fluoroscopy-guided intraforaminal infiltration. Once pain is under control, physiotherapy is recommended to strengthen the back muscles and prevent recurrence.
